Welcome to Isle of Mediation

  • Whether it's civil disputes or family matters, we offer professional mediation services to help you find solutions.

    We offer the following services:

    1. Information/ Assessment Meetings: This meeting will allow you to discuss the issues with us in a private and safe space without the other client present.

    2. Mediation Sessions: The mediation itself can be offered in the same location or separate (all done virtually in any event). Mediation is a method of alternative dispute resolution which attempts to support you through the problems and the explore a range possible solutions, without the need for court involvement.

    3. Agreements: If you are able to reach an agreement in Mediation, we can provide you with agreements to sign, which can be provided to your Advocates where necessary. We can also draft Open financial Summaries if your dispute is over a financial settlement. We will provide you with a Memorandum of Understanding if mediation is successful, which will set out what was agreed and discussed, and this remains a private and confidential document even if matters do proceed to court.

  • Alex Leigh Gelling is the founder of Isle of Mediation. Alex has a legal background which assists her with providing legal information (but not advice) to clients. Alex has experience in all different types of dispute, including both civil and family.

As well as Alex, we have well established close links to other mediators who are able to provide assistance, if Alex is unable to assist due to a conflict or if co-mediation (two mediators present during a session) is preferred/requested.

  • The key principles of mediation are as follows:

    1. Voluntary. Everyone (including the mediator) has a choice to attend mediation, if at any point in the process a client or party does not wish to continue, they do not have to do so.

    2. Impartial. The mediator is impartial, meaning they do not and will not take sides.

    3. Confidential. The discussions and mediation sessions (apart from the MIAM) are private and confidential, meaning if the matter was to proceed to court the mediator cannot be called as a witness to the content of conversations. The only caveat to this confidentiality, is if the mediator has concerns for a child or vulnerable adult. If this occurs confidentiality will be breached, as the mediator has a duty to report any concerns to the relevant department.

    4. Clients make decisions. It is down to the clients to make the decisions, not the mediator. The mediator will assist you to explore solutions whilst reality testing the same.

    5. Interests of the child is the main focus. If children are involved in dispute, their wishes, needs and feelings will need to be kept at the centre of all discussions.

  • 1.Voluntary - Mediation is voluntary. Both clients have to want to mediate, and either persons can stop the mediation process at any time.

    2. Impartial- Mediators are impartial. The mediator does not take sides, and is always there for both parties.

    3. Clients make decisions. It is down to the client to make the decisions.
